Oeschinensee bei Kandersteg, Switzerland

Posted by
Maria (California, United States) on 12 October 2011 in Landscape & Rural and Portfolio.

If I'll ever get the chance to visit Switzerland again, this place (lake) will be my number 1 choice... maybe in Spring time, when all those tiny waterfalls will be at their fullest...

Thank you ALL for your visit and comments.

Not sure if you have used a levels or curves adjustment to give this a very light feel, without deep dark contrasting shadows, but it looks good and fresh in my eyes.

12 Oct 2011 8:22am

@Curly: Thanks Curly,
I usually do not like dark contrasting shadows (in my photos), and I do the best I can to get rid of harsh contrasts because they scratch my eyes :)) but honestly, there weren't any dark shadows here, although I know it feels that way.
Yes, I did use the levels adjustment, but maybe to your surprise, it was to actually give some contrast to the image, as it was really dull and flat.

I just love the lake water as it is "set off" so wonderfully in tones and colours versus the cliffs and sky, Maria! Those little waterfalls would very definitely be a real treat to see in springtime! This is just about as majestic and beautiful as anything I have seen. You have really provided a wonderful feel with your treatment and composition overall. This is a peaceful, yet powerful image, Maria! Love it!!

What a magical place you found ... your photo is awesome! I had to look on a map to see just where this is, and see that it is an out-of-the-way place for sure.

I have just learned about the 3D options on Google's maps, so I took a 'ride' from Frutigen, Switzerland, to this beautiful lake. If you want to see it, go here and click on GET DIRECTIONS, then beneath the trip distance & time, it will say 3D ... click on that.

12 Oct 2011 6:07pm

@Judy aka L@dybug: Oh, wow, Judy, I had no idea about this 3D option...It really is amazing... unbelievably amazing...
They should make that 3D more visible, as I could barely find it...
I also had no idea you can drive there... I stayed in Kandersteg and I had to take a cable car first, and then there was also about 1 hour hiking in order to get to the lake.
Turning back to the hotel, I choose to hike down, and it took almost 3 hours, if I remember right.
I saw the road that google map gives as directions, but it was closed, it had a ramp closed down and you could not drive there. At first I thought it was a private road, but people said you could walk on it, but definitely not drive. There was a restaurant by the lake, so I assume that those managing the area are using that road, but certainly not tourists. There were absolutely no cars around the lake, even that there were people, so I assume everyone got there by hiking.
Thanks so much Judy for letting me know about this 3D option, it will certainly come in very handy next time I plan a trip.

Sorry ..... this link doesn't work. Do you own search for Frutigen to Oeschinensee bei Kandersteg, Switzerland and then find the 3D option. ;D

@Judy aka L@dybug: Ok, I corrected your link (in your comment) and it works now, try it! :))
