I knew there was a reason I couldn't sleep ... and this image in the town square is one of them!
Have you ever been in a more beautiful spot, Maria?
This is 'wunderbar' ... as they would say!

14 Oct 2011 5:10am

@Judy aka L@dybug: Nope...never been in a more beautiful place yet...not in this lifetime... Will see what the Heaven after dead will look like, but till then, this is Heaven for me! :) And I mean it! Thanks, Judy! I hope you can sleep now! :) Good night!

Roman from Thiersee, Austria

again a fantastic view of the cityscape of one of our smallest towns here in Austria. I like very much your discreet and soft colors.
I've found "Evangelische Christus Kirche" as a name for the church.

@Roman: Thanks Roman, I appreciate it

Perfect location!!! I don't think one can wish for more! The light falling in such a delighteful way on the colourful houses and the presence of flowers (possibly geraniums!) at the windows create a feeling of joy and peace at the same time.
(Thank you, Maria, for your comments and concern! Appreciate your kind attention!)

Carol from United States

I don't know if this helps or not....it does mention the name of a church...

14 Oct 2011 3:57pm

@Carol: That is the reason why I didn't write a name for it, cause I found so many names on the various sites that I checked. The site that seemed to have most complete info on the churches in Hallstatt, is This One and this particular church is on the second page, but I could not really see a name for it.

Très joli cliché, avec de belles couleurs...

franz from Baden, Austria

spectacular ... what did you do with the people?!? ;-))

14 Oct 2011 8:15pm

@franz: I sent them home! :)) I waited for a long time to clear up, but you see the yellow hotel on the right is not complete? Well, there is a good reason for that, there was a huge car parked right in the foreground on the right just outside the edge of my image, and a group of at least 50 tourists that invaded the plaza within seconds, right after I took this photo. Still I have 4 people in the image, if you see them, 3 are on the bench and one in the background, which I spared! :) Thanks Franz!

I had to come back to see this again ... and the link you shared with Carol is wonderful. I loved seeing the photos of the funicular because we rode that before going into the Salt Mine, and the view coming down was SPECTACULAR!!! I think Roman's name is correct for the church.

Rhetorical question...I wonder if the locals ever get tired of all this beauty?! As if....lol!
I like the seating arrangement, to encourage interaction and getting to know your neighbours...we need that here, definitely! Picture postcard perfect, again. *deep sigh, again! :OD

klausZ from Kufstein, Austria

an really fascinating place! i was there in july, by heavy rain and fog :-(, but so i get the chance to capture a very special mood there! do you also have seen the ossuary with the painted skulls? if not, i promise to upload a photo of this in the next week!

17 Oct 2011 5:45pm

@klausZ: And same goes for me, Klaus... I passed by on September 7th and I could not even stop for a single photo cause it was heavily raining... My lodging reservation was in St. Wolfgang, which is not too far away. But the next day, September 8th, it cleared up by 2 pm, so I rushed to drive to Hallstatt, and spent no more than 1 hour there, cause more rain came by the time it was sunset.... :((( Judy tells me about the funicular, and you tell me about the ossuary...and I really visited nothing, but just walked a bit downtown ...etc... Last year I visited the Ice Cave and 5 Fingers that are not far away from Hallstatt, but in regards to Hallstatt, I visited nothing yet, pretty much, even that I stopped by 2 times in 2 different years... :(( It only means that I have to visit there again, sometimes soon!!! :)) Thank you so much for your visit and comment... I'm looking forward to your painted skull photo...

Philou04 from Manosque, France

Yair Karelic from Ramat Gan, Israel

Looks like a quiet place, I would assume that tons of tourists would be all over

20 Oct 2011 11:50am

@Yair Karelic: it's not really that quiet, but this was a tiny break between 2 heavy rain storms, so I assume I was just lucky. Had I arrived in this plaza just seconds later, it would have been flooded with tons of tourists... Thank you very much for your visit and comment

Magda from Vancouver, Canada
