Curly from South Shields, United Kingdom

This composition has a very nice effect Maria, the proportions are great, so that the combination of the reality and the reflection create a swooping hole into which all of the colours are falling and colliding.
Excellent stuff, but as a side note, I much preferred your white frames and mattes of the past.

17 Apr 2012 9:27am

@Curly: Thanks Curly... So I guess I need to change my design ....again... Is it the light background that you don't like? or the light peachy/brownish color? or simply everything? Once in a while I get tired of old things and feel like making changes, but if changes are for worse, then it's no point in making them...of course...is it? Oddly, a couple of people mentioned that they liked this new design, just under the previous image...maybe just trying to be nice to me? By now I learned that you are very bald and honest, whether good or bad, for which I usually tend to take your remarks more seriously... Anyhow, I really, really appreciate your honesty and always feel honored of your visits and comments. Again, thank you!

franz from Baden, Austria

oh, the beauty of the mountains ... so perfectly seen and captured! the proportions, the colours, the reflections - everything cooperates to make this a great picture!
(and i like the fact that the larch trees were already / still bare. they add a sombre touch to the woods ...)

17 Apr 2012 6:44pm

@franz: Is that what those trees are called? I never knew that, and I was actually quite skeptical about this photo due to those trees, since they appeared to be pink in my images and I was not sure that looks natural. After your comment I searched for photos of those trees and found many looking just the same... I feel more comfortable now :) Thanks Franz! I wonder when it would be the best time to visit the area to see those trees at their peak...

franz from Baden, Austria

hi maria, it's me again ... about the larches! they are coniferous trees, of course, but in contrast to others of this family they lose their needles in fall, like deciduous trees lose their leaves. before the needles fall, they turn a spectacular golden hue, much like the aspens in the rockies, and to me this is the best time to see them in their glory. in the south of austria (carinthia) and in the dolomite region this would be in october, more or less ...
hope you can see this some day!

20 Apr 2012 8:01am

@franz: Thanks so much Franz...I learned something new! :) This was taken on September 6, last year, and while most had pink-burgundy-purplish leaves, some were actually with no leaves at all, like the ones right under the waterfall. I think I would like to see them in a golden stage, but regardless the color of the trees, the area it's a treasure any time of the year. I visited it twice in the last 2 years and both times was in the first part of September. I need to change my vacation time to a different month :) Again, thanks so much for the information and reply, I appreciate it very much.

Curly from South Shields, United Kingdom

No Maria, just the old frames you used with the white mattes had a very "classy" look and feel about them, much as you might find pictures hanging on an art gallery wall - and that is how I like to imagine your pictures being seen and enjoyed. Those frames gave your images a certain touch of class and created an impression of hard artistic work to present the view in the best possible manner.

22 Apr 2012 7:23am

@Curly: I know you referred to the white mattes, but I was trying to understand why the current display is not favorable... (My first reply above is now outdated because I changed template and colors since I replied to your first comment.) I guess another reason why I decided to change frames (besides getting tired of the old one), was also to be able to post images that are probably not good enough to be displayed in an art gallery, but just random stuff that it's not all that great. Having those mattes, I felt I had to keep some sort of standard of quality in terms of composition and subject, while not all my images are all that great...as you probably know... But I want to say, this comment of yours is extremely nice and ...I very much appreciate you feel that way. I will consider alternating when I'll feel the image will be at that level... Meanwhile I'll have probably a bunch of random things that for sure won't qualify. Thanks much Curly...all your remarks are very valuable to me
